Is It Too Soon to Book a Photographer? Here’s the Best Timing Based on Real Weddings
If you've just said yes and are currently the high of your engagement, Congratulations! It’s such an exciting season. But of all the Pinterest boards and venue tours, you might be asking: “Is it too soon to book a wedding photographer?”
To tell you truth is, it’s never too early, especially if you have your eye set on someone whose style speaks to your love story.
From our experience with real weddings across Glasgow, Edinburgh and Scotland in general, the sweet spot for booking your photographer is around 12 months in advance.
Why? Because photographers, especially those who shoot a limited number of weddings per year to give each couple their full energy and attention (like I do!), tend to book up quickly.
That said, if you’re planning a wedding during peak season (May–September), or on a special date (like repeating numbers or bank holidays), it’s wise to secure your spot as soon as your venue is locked in.
So, when in doubt, reach out. Even if your date feels far away, a quick 15 min zoom can help you feel confident in your timeline and maybe even tick one big thing off your to-do list!
